Title research: Terrifier 2

 

Hey, Kaz and the girls here! This is some fun research I conducted from watching an opening sequence from art of the titles.

1. What titles are displayed during the opening sequences?

The titles that are displayed first start with the actors names. It then goes onto displaying who the two main characters are played by. The sequence then displays the hair and makeup artists from the crew. Next, the costume artists are displayed. The director of photography is then shown.  he next titles are the executive producers and the co-producers. The writers and directors names were then shown as the last titles. 

2. What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?

In the opening sequence, images of the killer clown cleaning up his victims crime scene was prioritized. It then went on to this girl looking like she is making armor to fight or defend herself. 

3. What connotations do these images carry?

These images carry a scary or chilling connocation. They show that something bad happened and that the girl may be the killer clowns next victim in his string of murders. 

4. How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset?

From the outset, you already know this movie is going to be a horror movie. You instantly get the chills as it plays. From the creepy looking clown( in which clowns already have a scary connotation), to the trash bad he is carrying and the bleach he is wiping the blood off of the floor with. 

5. What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?

I first starts the opening sequence with eerie music as you see the clown mopping the floor. That usually attracts an audience that likes horror films as it feel you into the creepy horror scene and environment. Another strategy used is showing the suspect (clown) cleaning up a supposed murder that he committed and showing his weapon and then showing the murdered victim. In horror movie lovers, that would grab their attention and make them want to know more.

6. How has technology been used effectively? You want to consider camera angles,transitions and editing techniques

Technology has been used in many ways in this opening sequence. In editing, sound was added in the beginning which was definitely used effectively in displaying horror. After the opening media, the title of the movie was shown splatting out on the screen with another sound effect, and the words were in a horror themed font. They then disappeared off the screen in a shock sound.The angles used then show a girl almost making armor from a low angle to really get the perspective of what she was doing. A closeup was also used to show the clown mopping the floor from the blood. The titles transition in between scenes which give the viewer some excitement as opposed to just showing the scene and then the titles at the end.
