Title Research: Silent Hill

Hey yall, kazmin and the girls here back at it again with title researching this time. We are gonna

research the opening sequences of some good horror movies and share it all with yall. Enjoy :)
1. What titles are displayed during the opening sequence?
The first title in the opening sequence is the title of the movie. This is usually big and bolded
on the screen. The font usually stays the same throughout the movie. In this case, the title has
"Silent Hill" big and bolded and right under it says Revelation. The next title is the main actor's
name which is Adelaide Clemens and after that is another main actor whose name Kit Harington.
After that, in the same scene, two actors' names are shown which means they are probably not as
important as the others. The names are Sean Bean and Radha Mitchell. The three next scenes are
more actors in the movies. Then, the original music credits are given and the name is Akria Yamaoka
After that comes the executive producer who is Don Carmody. Lastly, the director and writer's name
is shown and his name is Micheal J. Bassett.

2. What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?
All of the images in this sequence are consistent and flow well together. The concept of all of
them is basically the same but each scene has a different detail to it. The first image with the titles
is a cement wall that looks old and the editing makes it look like lights are flickering on and off
that match the beats of the music. The rest of the images are something with old stuff.
For example, old paper is part of the image in the second scene along with the image of the actor.
Most of the scenes have pictures of the actors integrated into the actual setting. There are picture
frames of the actors on the walls of the setting and then the names are added later with editing.

3. What connotations do these images carry?
These images all have a rugged and old connotation. It gives the audience a sense of something
that's been abandoned and left behind to rot. All the infrastructure is shown like the walls, floors, tiles, and
other surrounds are broken, scraped, chipped off, and paint scraped off. There are a lot of shadows
and creepy editing in these images so the vibes are mysterious and like something is lurking.
Most images are like showing a setting so the audiences get a peak at where the movie wil take
place and what the vibes are.

4. How does this film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset?
The first scene with the title establishes that the movie will be horror. It is cleat through to font
of the title and the image in the back. It looks as if theres a old, abandonded wall being the title.
Due to the flashing light matching the omnious music in the background, the audience gets
an idea that the movie is meant to be scary. As an audience, we feel already a sense of horror movie
vibes from the first scene. The whole opening sequnence continues to show that the movie is horror.
All the spotlight, music, special editing, ruddgy scary looking images and red saturation gives off
horror movie vibes.

5. What stratagies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?
Since the target audience for the movie is horror lovers, the opening sequence needs to make sure
they keep that audience entertained. This is clear due to the use of scary and mysterious music with
no lyrics. This already sets the tone for the whole movie. Due to the beats up and down, the audience gets
a sense of mystery and are intrigues to see what the movies will entail. Along with sound, editing
is also showing off horror movies vibes. The light flickering and light spotlight shows anticiaption
for something to appear and sheds light in a setting with a lot of shadows and darkness. The overall
images in this sequence are creepy and give off a sense of something abandoned. This is sure to keep
any horror lover entertianed within the first minute and a half.

6. How has technology been used effectively?
Technology is the base for almost all films, especially horror films which use a lot of supernatural
and fake setting, characters etc. In this case, the opening sequence uses a variety of different technology
to curate the film. Firstly, the overall use of a good quality camera. All the different angles, shots
and raw fotage would be obtained with a camera. Maybe the it was filmed with different lenses, some
simple ones and some high tech ones to get good scopes and scenes. The editing is a big one for this
sequence. Audiences can see this due to the flickering of lights, fading in and out of titles and unnatural
movement. Not just the special effects, but the basic intergaration of titles wouldn't have been possible
without technology. The other stuff is the cherrry on top but the basic were prodcued effectively.
The different fonts, sizes and positioing of titles was thanks to different software programs. For
big films such as these, professional editors would use some fancy and high quality editing softwares.
This is useful to get the best edits possible in order to give the audience the best and more realistic
result.
Hopefully you guys learned something new about this opening sequence and how titles tie into it.
Everyone should watch this movies, it is a classic horror movies.
